It wasn’t that long ago when Jake Paul was the target of a $100 million defamation lawsuit from Eddie Hearn.
But Paul and Hearn are trying to survive in the new world of the “sweet science,” which pits MVP and Matchroom against Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing, backed by Turki Al-Sheikh. Since Paul and Hearn are both enemies of White, I can’t help but think of that old saying, “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.”
MVP and Matchroom Boxing today announced a landmark strategic alliance for a long-term collaboration
focused on accelerating the continued global growth of women’s boxing. Shortly after the announcement, MVP revealed the signing of Australia’s two division champion, reigning WBC super bantamweight world champion, and 2020 Australian Olympian Skye Nicolson.
“This is a partnership not many would have seen coming,” Hearn said. “But it is one that makes perfect sense. For a long time, Matchroom has singlehandedly carried the flag for women’s boxing. In recent years, MVP have done an incredible job, too. They now have an unprecedented stable of champions and continue to break the boundaries for women’s boxing time and time again. For our female fighters to chase legacy and to fight the best, this new alliance is integral and we are fully committed to working together with MVPW to continue to grow women’s boxing.”
Nicolson (16-1, 3 KOs) will make her MVP debut on MVPW-06 at bp pulse LIVE on Sat., Aug. 29 in Birmingham, England, defending her WBC super bantamweight world title in a 10-round showdown against Japan’s two-division champion Miyo Yoshida (19-5, 1 KOs). The event airs live on Sky Sports in the UK and ESPN+ in the US.
“Since launching MVPW, our goal has been to build the biggest platform in the world for women’s boxing and create transformative opportunities for female fighters at every stage of their careers,” said Most Valuable Promotions co-founders Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian. “Partnering with Matchroom Boxing is another major step toward that vision. Historically, Matchroom played an instrumental role in elevating women’s boxing globally, and together we have an opportunity to create even bigger moments for the sport and the athletes driving it forward. This is about investing in the future of the sport and creating the premier destination for the world’s best female fighters.”
