Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl could see how in control his team was early in the Champions League match vs. Sporting CP.
Unfortunately, the Bavarians went into halftime knotted 0-0 before
ultimately bursting past the visitors for a 3-1 comeback victory over the Portuguese powerhouse. For Eberl it was another example of the team resilience.
“We were dominant in the first half. The first ten minutes after the break were more difficult. But I was impressed by our composure, the fact we didn’t lose our heads after going behind. We then equalized from a set piece and decided the game with a second set piece and Lennart Karl’s great goal. It was the tough match we expected; Sporting are a good team,” Eberl said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “We’re absolutely delighted to have won. It was a huge step forward. It’s great that Alphonso Davies was able to play his first few minutes. An eight-month rehabilitation is extremely demanding, mentally as well. So it was a wonderful moment to get those first minutes and then be back at full strength in January.”
There are a lot of positive feelings after the match and rightfully so. The Bavarians were, indeed, dominant and aside of one misstep on the own goal from Joshua Kimmich, Bayern Munich was excellent.
That is not much a bad way to to head into the weekend’s match against Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga.
