There’s a lot of back and forth about the future of tight end Travis Kelce’s NFL career, even some speculation on whether returning for his 14th season would include re-signing with the Kansas City Chiefs or another franchise.
With half an hour before the free-agency frenzy begins on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network clarified that Kelce expects to return to Kansas City for his 14th season, rather than test the open market. Rapoport revealed that Kelce has been delivering that message to the other NFL suitors interested in signing him this offseason.
In a later post, Rapoport said Kelce “would have commanded top dollar” in the tight end market, but the signal from Kelce is that he would rather stay with the Chiefs regardless.
That comes just over 12 hours after a report from senior NFL writer Rob Maaddi, who shared a note from his time at the NFL Scouting Combine and reported that Kelce was not going to utilize his unrestricted free agency.
Now it’s a waiting game to see how much Kelce will sign for. We’ll have the latest updates when the information becomes available.
