Coming off an impressive 0-0 tie against No. 11 Arkansas, Mizzou soccer had an even wilder finish to end the 2025 season with a draw. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Riley Wilkerson deserves her flowers for
battling a 22-6 shot discrepancy, allowing Mizzou a late equalizing goal to take a 1-1 tie.
Mizzou finished its 2025 season with a 4-10-3 record, its worst win total in program history, but arguably played its best to finish the campaign.
This match expectedly gave head coach Stefanie Golan the opportunity to play more of her youth, including defender Callaway Combs getting her first start of the season against Auburn. A total of six players were used off the bench for the Tigers.
Auburn got out to an early lead with a goal in the 20th minute and it looked like they would cruise to a victory, outmatching Mizzou in offensive fire power. The Tigers showed fight that hadn’t been seen this season on a corner kick in the 83rd minute.
Freshman midfielder Aly Bryant lined up to take the kick from the nearside corner and found midfielder McKenna Moran. She headered the ball into the six-yard box where midfielder Hailey Chambliss was perfectly positioned to drill the ball into the back of the net, knotting the match at 1-1.
Despite the late goal, Mizzou’s offense looked stagnant for nearly the entire match, not getting a single shot attempt off in the first half. Wilkerson was still in net for the Tigers after getting the first clean sheet of conference play against the Razorbacks.
Wilkerson managed to save Auburn’s first four shot on goal attempts, but the barrage of pressure did not stop. In the 20th minute, defender Taylor Chism played a beautiful through ball to forward Dylan Sriver sprinting down the middle of the attacking third and the redshirt junior had a good touch that led to her finding the bottom left of the goal.
The Tigers of Alabama held that 1-0 lead for over 60 minutes.
Auburn finished the opening 45’ with nine shot attempts to Mizzou’s zero. There was also a four-attempt margin in the number of corner kicks between the two teams.
It wasn’t until the 58th minute of the match where Mizzou got its first shot attempt off. Defender Morgan Meador took the shot, but it went off target.
If Wilkerson wasn’t under enough pressure in the opening half, she saw plenty more work in the second half. Auburn put up 13 shots in the second half, six on goal, but Mizzou’s keeper stood strong.
Mizzou ended the match with six shot attempts, three on target, all coming in the second half. Six different players contributed a shot attempt.
Stats and Storylines
Mizzou and Auburn have had an underrated rivalry on the pitch. The all-time record between the two programs is 5-4-2 after the tie.
Wilkerson ended the match with nine saves, a season-high with Mizzou and just one shy of tying her career-high set last season against TCU when she was with Cal Poly.
With the final match in the rear view mirror, 2025 stat leaders are set. Midfielder Olivia Chianelli and Chambliss led the team with three goals apiece, forward Emily Derucki led in shots, shots on goal and assists with 23, 11 and four respectively. Both players should be back next season, pending any transfer portal drama, and could help improve a slow offense.
Only five players are projected to depart, and the Tigers’ future looks bright. Another season of development should give Mizzou a chance at its first SEC Tournament berth in five seasons.
