Folks, we did it. We made it to Game 162. It’s been an up-and-down season, but we learned a lot about the Colorado Rockies and ourselves. Perhaps the biggest win was the friends we made along the way?
I mean, the Rockies saw 30 players make at least one plate appearance this season, tied with the 2011 club for the most players used in a single season in franchise history (excluding pitchers). They also saw a franchise-record 13 players make their MLB debuts this season — six position players (the
most in a single season since 2022) and seven pitchers (matching the 2024 tally). They also have the youngest active roster in the Majors right now with an average age of 26.3 — Kyle Farmer is currently the oldest active player on the roster at 35-years-old (and the manager is 40).
Nonetheless, we do still have one more game to watch this afternoon (perhaps alongside five or six others, since they all start at the same time today).
The Rockies once again rallied yesterday and once again fell short 4-3 at the hands of the San Francisco Giants. It’s been a trend this year, and perhaps it’s something they can build upon for next year and actually win more of these games. They finished with a franchise-worst 25-56 record at Coors Field and have overall gone 7-28 since August 19. It’s been a long season, but it’s almost over.
McCade Brown (0-4, 7.54 ERA) will pitch the finale for the Rox. Brown made his MLB debut on August 24 and has pitched six games. He has been up and down, but his last outing against the Seattle Mariners was lights out. He tossed five innings and allowed just one run — a solo homer to Dominic Canzone in the fifth. He also struck out 10 batters and walked just two. He became the second pitcher in franchise history to strike out 10 batters within his first six career starts, joining LHP Christian Friedrich.
He will face Giants’ ace Logan Webb (14-11, 3.30 ERA). In his last outing against the St. Louis Cardinals, Webb received a no-decision after allowing three runs on eight hits with two walks and five strikeouts over six innings. He has faced the Rockies twice this year and is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA, 13 strikeouts and a 1.42 WHIP. In his career, he has dominated the Rockies, going 10-3 with a 3.12 ERA in 18 games (17 starts).
We’ll see if the Rockies can end 2025 on a high note, or if it’ll end with a sour sweep.
