Eva Marie sat down with TMZ’s Inside the Ring for a near hour long chat about a variety of topics, and of course they asked about whether or not she had any companies, such as AEW, reach out to her to try to bring her in after she was released by WWE.
She revealed that, yes, there was interest, at least at first, but her asking price was high.
Like, really high:
“It was initially at the very beginning, and I kinda, like, teeter tottered and thought about it. But it’s also like… it would have to be done
so good and not trying to recreate an Eva Marie. And I feel like it was very much WWE was my home. So if I were to do something like that, one, the offer would have to be incredibly good. There’s gotta be a lot of zeros, and it would have to make sense where I would have some type of creative control. Cause that’s what I have learned in doing the business: that helps a lot if you’re able to kind of have a lot more input, because a lot of us that are in WWE don’t. You’re basically hoping that the writers help you to the fullest and make the storyline that’s like something that is so juicy and good, and then you get a payoff. And if you don’t get that, then it kind of sucks for your character too. So I never really took it any further with other companies.”
When you think of a company like AEW, it’s at least possible she could actually get a big deal with some level of creative control but she certainly wouldn’t fit in on that roster. Then again, the entirety of her run through NXT was basically acknowledging she wasn’t on the level of pretty much anyone else in the building and pushing her as a legitimate threat to unseat those talented women.
Why couldn’t it work a second time in a different company?
It’s unlikely it ever happens, and she seems content with that.
But an old Eva Marie fan who remembers the passion folks had for that title match with Bayley back in the day sure would love to see her squaring up with Mercedes Mone.
You?
