The Missouri Tigers are coming off a 31-24 loss to Mississippi State in their SEC opener — marking the first time Mizzou has started 0-1 in conference play since the 2022 season.
Eli Drinkwitz has had a bowl eligible record in each of his first six seasons with Mizzou, but the Tigers could be up against it this year — and that’s mainly
due to a difficult schedule. With eight games remaining in the regular season, Mizzou will play five teams currently ranked in the Top 25 (and four teams ranked inside the Top 10).
Up next for Mizzou is Homecoming as they host No. 8 Florida on Saturday afternoon— a 2:30 p.m. CST kick-off on ABC. The Gators are off to a 4-0 start in the Jon Sumrall era, coming off a 52-28 statement win over Ole Miss. Missouri is currently 5.5-point underdogs per FanDuel Sportsbook.
So no, it’s not time to overreact after the first loss of the year, but Mizzou missed an opportunity in Starkville which was a winnable game. With the loss to Mississippi State, the path to the playoff seems incredibly unlikely — and maybe now it’s time to worry about bowl eligibility. Per FanDuel Sportsbook — Missouri is now favored to go under their 6.5-win total on the season.
