Mexico announce the squad that will take part in the 2026 U20 CONCACAF Championship in which four tickets to the U20 World Cup will be in play along with the one spot for the 2028 Olympic games. Mexico will host the tournament in Puebla and Mexico City, where Mexico will try to return to the Olympic Games after missing out on the 2024 edition.
The call up list by Mexico’s coach, Alex Diego was the following:
Goalkeepers: Juan Liceaga (Chivas), Artemio Orion (Atletico San Luis), Cristo Navarrete (Chivas)
Defenders: Juan Echivelstre (Santos Laguna), Carlos Hernandez (Chivas), Cristobal Alfaro (Atlante), Edwin Soto (Pachuca), Yohan Orozco (Chivas), Luis Carmona (FC Juarez)
Midfielders: Henrique Simeone (Tigres), Samir Inda (Chivas), Juan Sigala (FC Juarez), Luis Gamboa (Atlas), Nelson Cedillo (Santos Laguna), Diego Covarrubias (Chivas), Luis Gomez (Santos Laguna)
Forwards: Hugo Camberos (Chivas), Diego Reyes (Flamengo), Santiago Sandoval (Chivas), Aldahir Valenzuela (Monterrey), Diego Ramirez (Tigres)
The Mexican list for this U20 is lead by Hugo Camberos (who took part in the 2025 U20 World Cup) but is weaker than the squad for the 2024 U20 Championship in which Mexico won the tournament which they also hosted. Mexico should be favored to get to the 2027 U20 World Cup by hosting the tournament and having four spots available for the World Cup, but getting that single spot for the 2028 Olympic Games will be tough. With the United States hosting the Olympic tournament, they guaranteed a spot as hosts. This means Mexico will face off for that final ticket and will have a tough task from teams like Canada and Panama. This squad doesn’t bring the most confidence with a lot of players not having much first division experience.
Mexico is in Group B along with Guateamala, Costa Rica and Antigua and Barbuda. Mexico opens the tournament on Friday July 24th against Antigua and Barbuda. They will then face off against Costa Rica on July 27th and close out their group stage on July 3oth against Guatemala. All the matches will be played on Estadio Cuauhtemoc in Puebla.
