After taking a one-year sabbatical following his departure from the New England Patriots, Bill Belichick will make his comeback on Monday night. The new head coach at the University of North Carolina, he will lead the Tar Heels into their season opener against TCU.
Belichick also is the subject of our latest community debate:
How interested are you in Bill Belichick’s tenure at North Carolina?
First some picks from our staff, then it’s up to the comment section for your picks.
Bernd Buchmasser: For me, Belichick at UNC feels a lot like Tom Brady in Tampa. Sure, there
will be interest in the product and the results given the status as a Patriots legend, but the connections to the school (or franchise, in the Buccaneers’ case) are still limited. This, in turn, leads to a relatively marginal emotional investment.
Taylor Kyles: I’m not a big CFB guy, but I’ll be fascinated to see how Bill Belichick’s system translates to the college game. We just saw Matt Patricia wreck havoc on Texas’ offensive line, and I think Belichick’s will do something similar at UNC.
Pat Lane: I’m very interested to see what Bill Belichick can do at UNC. He seemed to have lost a step in his last few years in New England, but I’m curious to see if he can turn the Tar Heels into a good team. Will his message work with college kids? Will he be more aggressive? Will Jordon Hudson have a headset on the field? That last one’s pretty unlikely, but it should be a fun year in Chapel Hill, and I, for one, will be tuned in.
Now, it’s your turn: How closely will you follow Belichick at UNC? How interested, or invested, are you in his success? Please scroll down to the comment section below to share your answers, thoughts, and more.
