There’s a decent chance that the Cincinnati Bengals end up drafting last year’s defensive player of the year in the American Athletic Conference.
Landon Robinson, who should go in the middle rounds, is a shorter, but very athletic prospect from Navy. And he has now met with the Bengals three times. As A to Z Sports’ John Sheeran writes:
Bengals defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery first coached Robinson at the East-West Shrine Bowl. Cincinnati had an official meeting with him at the event. Robinson was
then scouted by the Bengals at Navy’s pro day. This week, he came to Paycor Stadium for his final pre-draft visit.
So the Bengals like what they see in Robinson. And the Akron native would be happy to play in Cincinnati.
In a recent interview with Jordan Schultz, Robinson mentioned that his father was a “big” Bengals fan.
Strengths: According to NFL.com’s Draft profile, Robinson has a strong upper body and is difficult to move with single blocks. He does a good job of anchoring himself and separating from blockers when rushing the passer.
The Draft profile of Robinson on Bucs Report adds that he explodes off the snap and has rare short area acceleration. He also has “violent, active” hands and gives relentless effort.
Weaknesses: NFL.com points out that he does lack the length you’d desire in the NFL and will get “engulfed by a properly fit double-team block”. Bucs Report adds that his technique is inconsistent and will need to be refined in the pros.
