Heading into the Kansas City Chiefs’ preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams, we knew that star quarterback Patrick Mahomes would not play. You may have heard that Mahomes is working his way back from a serious knee injury suffered in December.
Mahomes recently explained that, while the decision to play or not was out of his hands, he would go through his normal preparation before each exhibition as if he were. True to his word, Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star reports that Mahomes will
be on the sideline in full pads.
Even with the scheduled day off, Mahomes was on the field throwing before the game, per Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest.
Notably, per Derrick, Mahomes took his knee brace off before the showcase.
Shortly after, the NFL’s official social media account posted a clip of Mahomes throwing to veteran tight end Travis Kelce. It remains to be see how much, if any, the 36-year-old Kelce will see the field Saturday in the midst of a heat advisory.
