This past week, Todd Monken was announced as the new head coach of the Cleveland Browns, which has been met with a lot of discussion among fans and around the league. We have already talked about what the hiring means for Shedeur Sanders going forward, and Monken has been filling in his offensive staff with a lot of relationships he’s built over the years, specifically during his time with the Baltimore Ravens.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Plain Dealer, the Browns would still like to keep their
defensive coaching staff in tact, and are hoping that Jim Schwartz changes his mind and opts to stay on as the team’s defensive coordinator. If he leaves, then if we’re reading between the lines, the team might promote from within. Perhaps we’ll have some answers soon on that front, as well as some more insight on how Monken plans to turn the Browns’ offense around. You also have the recent news that the 49ers hired a new defensive coordinator, which takes a candidate team out of the picture for Schwartz.
The Browns announced that Monken’s introductory press conference with the team will take place Tuesday, February 3 at noon ET from the Berea headquarters. We will be sure to cover all the news and sound bites from it here at Dawgs By Nature. These introductory press conferences used to be a darn-near annual thing for Cleveland, but it’s actually been awhile when you consider Kevin Stefanski’s somewhat lengthy tenure with the team.
