In a season filled with bad injury news for the Philadelphia Eagles, here’s a positive development!
Saquon Barkley “is in line to play” in the Birds’ Week 7 game against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football, according to a report from NFL insider Mike Garafolo.
He adds that Barkley is expected to return to practice today.
Barkley has been out of action since suffering a hamstring injury early in the Eagles’ Week 4 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Making matters worse, Eagles backup running backs
Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley have ended up on injured reserve. The Eagles entered Week 6 with their fourth (Dameon Pierce), fifth (Carson Steele), and sixth (Jaydon Blue) options at running back. And Steele got hurt and waived/injured while Blue was cut.
The Eagles’ running game has really struggled without Barkley; they’ve logged just 57 rushing yards in their last two games combined. For context, Barkley is averaging 45.5 yards per game this season.
Barkley’s return alone does not fix one of the NFL’s worst offenses. And it remains to be seen how he’ll fare behind a struggling offensive line.
But the Eagles would much rather have him available to them than not. Especially against a Dallas defense that’s tied for allowing the seventh-most yards per carry this season.
