Last weekend, Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl shot down any thought that the club had interest in head coach Vincent Kompany’s former teammate, Manchester City defender John Stones.
Or…did he?
Per Betano, Bayern Munich is still the leader in the clubhouse to land Stones:
Bayern Munich are heavy favourites to sign John Stones this summer following his release from Manchester City, according to Betano.
Stones has departed the Etihad after a trophy-laden spell at the club, landing six Premier
League titles, the Champions League, three FA Cups, five League Cups, three Community Shields, the Club World Cup and the Uefa Super Cup.
All roads appear to lead to the Allianz Arena for Stones, with Betano making him a 5/4 heavy favourite to join the German champions this summer and reunite with former central defensive partner Vincent Kompany, now in charge of Bayern Munich.
A return to former club Everton is a 3/1 chance, while a switch to AC Milan is 8/1, followed by either Juventus or Inter Milan at 10/1.

It still feels like it would be a longshot for Bayern Munich to get Stones, but the oddsmakers do not feel the same way, eh?
As a free agent — and with Bayern Munich in a great two-year window to chase a treble — a move for Stones is not crazy. Sure, the Bavarians would likely prefer to find a center-back of the future, but Stones could eventually become an option if both the player and the club do no have solutions in place later this summer.
It might seem easy to dismiss the odds, but they were correct on Anthony Gordon’s move to FC Barcelona.
