Barcelona have been made to wait to be crowned La Liga champions after Real Madrid beat Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium on Sunday night.
Hansi Flick’s side moved 14 points clear of their rivals with victory over Osasuna on Saturday but Madrid responded with a win against Espanyol.
After a goalless first half, Vinicius Jr broke the deadlock 10 minutes into the second half. The Brazilian then struck again on 66 minutes to secure the victory for Alvaro Arbeloa’s side.
The win means that Barcelona can now
win the title on Sunday when they face Real Madrid in El Clasico at the Camp Nou.
The Catalans need only a point against Madrid to successfully retain their title but would surely love to beat Los Blancos and make up for defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu earlier this season.
Both teams will have only three games left after El Clasico. Barca finish off against Alaves, Betis and Valencia, while Madrid take on Oviedo, Sevilla and Athletic Club.
