The New York Giants made the previously-reported release of Odell Beckham Jr. official Tuesday afternoon. They also placed edge defender Brian Burns on injured reserve with the torn ACL he suffered in Sunday’s victory over the Tennessee Titans.
To fill those roster spots, the Giants signed two wide receivers off their practice squad. Added to the 53-man roster were Braxton Berrios and Charlie Jones.
Berrios was out of practice squad elevations after being brought up for the first three games of the season.
Berrios has returned two punts for an average of 6.0 yards, and five kickoffs for an average of 27.6 yards. He has played 22 snaps at wide receiver, but has yet to be targeted.
Jones, 27, was signed to the practice squad on Sept. 1. A 2023 fourth-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals, he played in 33 games over three seasons for Cincinnati with eight receptions.
Like Berrios, Jones’ primary contribution came as a returner for the Bengals. In his career, he has returned 50 punts for an average of 9.2 yards, and 47 kickoffs for an average of 27.3 yards.
The Giants bypassed signing veteran linebacker Malik Harrison, who is also out of practice squad elevations, to the 53-man roster. Perhaps that is an indication the Giants may not be done shuffling the roster before they face the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
The Giants also bypassed signing edge defender Trace Ford off the practice squad as a replacement for Burns.
