In a tough recruiting loss for the Kentucky Football team, in-state wide receiver Ja’Hyde Brown announced his commitment to the Louisville Cardinals on Monday, opting to stay home and play for Jeff Brohm and his staff.
Brown, a 5-foot-10, 186-pound 3-star prospect in the class of 2027, had recently decommitted from Indiana, reopening his recruitment and drawing strong interest from Kentucky. Despite a hard push from Will Stein and the Wildcats’ staff, the pull of representing his hometown ultimately
proved too strong.
The Louisville native gives the Cardinals a dynamic playmaker close to home, while Kentucky is left to regroup after missing on a key in-state target. Still, this recruitment may not be fully closed.
With about seven months until signing day, Stein and his staff could look to flip Brown down the line depending on the on-field success and continued relationship-building.
Kentucky’s 2027 class remains intact with several in-state and regional pieces already committed, including Larron Westmoreland, Ty Ashley, Brady Hull, and Matthias Burrell.
While missing on Brown stings, Kentucky is expected to stay aggressive in pursuing top wide receiver talent both in-state and nationally as the 2027 cycle continues to take shape.
