The big story of these last two weeks has been Manchester City being found guilty of almost every one of the 115 charges being investigated by the Premier League. The infractions took place between 2009 and 2018, which coincides with the time that Vincent Kompany was at the club. So, although the Bayern Munich coach has left that part of his life behind, he was bound to be asked his opinion on the verdict.
“I’m only thinking about my work at FC Bayern,” Kompany told reporters on Friday (via @iMiaSanMia).
“We have important games coming up, and that takes a lot of time. There’s not much time to think about other stuff.”
Kompany was captain of Man City from 2011 to 2019, a lengthy tenure that spans much of the period when the cheating took place. Despite this, he retains fond memories of his time at the club.
“For me it’s simple, I played 11 years for the club, and I’ve loved my time there. I’m proud of everything we’ve achieved as a team. Everything else is currently not in my reality, because I’m here at FC Bayern.”
One good thing about all this is that Kompany might no longer be tempted with a return to England any time soon. Bayern Munich already extended his contract once, specifically to ward off interest from Manchester City, now a longer partnership in Bavaria is suddenly more likely.
