Vincent Kompany has a big fan in Bayern Munich’s honorary president and current supervisory board member, Uli Hoeneß. Since that fateful day in the Munich restaurant in which Hoeneß met the Belgian, it has been clear as day. The former European Cup winner saw it fit to praise Kompany’s work just weeks after his first day at Bayern back in 2024 and he is certainly not going to stop now, when the former Burnley boss has delivered tangible success to the club.
Hoeneß’s latest praise centers on the togetherness
of the squad, demonstrated quite effectively by Kompany’s recent birthday party.
“The coach has managed to forge a team out of individual players. Things haven’t been like this within the squad and the staff for a long time,” Hoeneß remarked during an appearance on Podcast Auf eine weiß-blaue Tasse (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “We recently celebrated Vincent Kompany’s 40th birthday. There was a surprise party. 50-60 people were there, they gave him a standing ovation and sang for him. You can tell everything’s going well. They’re having fun. And I also hear that they sometimes get together privately in the evenings and go out. That’s a clear sign that things are working well within the team.”
Sometimes, a coaching appointment just works out very well. And sometimes the coach is just so special that things were going to work no matter what. If one were to ask Hoeneß, he would probably say Kompany belongs in the second category. Honestly, he might be right.
