As we inch closer to the July moratorium and the start of the NBA free agency period proper, several notable free agents are making decisions about contract options. Today’s news is full of players who are deciding whether or not to remain with their current deals or become unrestricted free agents next week.
Among them:
Per Shams Charania of ESPN, Draymond Green is opting out of the last year of his deal, prepping for more moves for the Golden State Warriors:
Golden State Warriors forward Draymond
Green is declining his $27.7 million player option to become a free agent, sources tell ESPN. This move gives the Warriors flexibility to pursue LeBron James in free agency and Anthony Davis via trade to form a Big 4.
Fred VanVleet of the Houston Rockets is exercising his $25 million player option for next season (per Shams Charania)
In some of the least-surprising news of the offseason, Sacramento Kings guard Zach LaVine is exercising his $49 million player option (per Shams Charania). He played just 39 games last season with production far below his norm.
Former Portland Trail Blazers center DeAndre Ayton is picking up the $8 million option on his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers (per ESPN and Shams Charania).
We’ll update as the day rolls along.
