As voting for the 2nd ranked prospect in the Cincinnati Reds system wrapped this morning, it was clear that Alfredo Duno was going to take home that honor. So, he did – with almost 51% of the vote despite a crowded ballot!
Duno defeated RHP Rhett Lowder in what was pretty clearly a two-horse race, with the likes of Steele Hall, Tyson Lewis, Cam Collier, and Chase Petty pretty clearly a level below them, according to voters.
It’s hard to discount just how incredible Duno was across 2025. He hit .287/.430/.518
(.948 OPS) across 495 PA, socking 18 homers and leading the Florida State League in just about every offensive category for the Daytona Tortugas. Keep in mind just how pitcher-friendly the FSL is and has been for quite some time, and then sprinkle on top that Duno was a) only 19 years old and b) a good defender at catcher – the single hardest position to find offense.
That’s got all the makings of a franchise cornerstone, and that’s why he’s so high on this list. It’s also far from the first time he’s been highly regarded in specific rankings, as he commanded a $3.1 million signing bonus back in 2023 in the international free agent window after being ranked among the Top 3-5 players in that particular class.
Congrats to Alfredo!
