Jules Kounde has warned Barcelona they can’t afford to relax after winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup last season.
The defender is currently on international duty with France where he has been discussing his current form and how he’s feeling.
Kounde has recently penned a contract extension at Barcelona and says he’s reaching his peak.
“I feel very good. At almost 27, I’m probably entering my best years. I was very happy with what we achieved at the club last season, to have
contributed greatly to it,” he told a press conference.
“There’s no room for relaxation, things are moving very quickly. I’m still very hungry, I’m approaching this season with the same desire to win, perform and improve.”
Kounde missed the end of last season through injury which allowed Eric Garcia the chance to stake a claim for the right-back sport.
The Frenchman admits it was a difficult time and feels it was a result of simply playing too much.
“It was frustrating, it happened at the most important time of the season, when we were playing in a Champions League semi-final. Obviously it frustrated me, it came just after a high with the victory against Madrid in the Cup,” he added.
“It’s the limit of playing so much. I try to control as many things as possible but at one point my body says stop. The sequence was very quick. Frustrating but I recovered well, it’s part of everyday life to get injured.”
Hansi Flick did start Eric ahead of Kounde at the start of the season, although the Frenchman was back in from the start last time out against Rayo.
