It was an up-and-down week for New York, starting off strong by completing a four-game sweep of the Orioles before winning another series against Texas, but they were knocked down a peg by the Brewers as they got swept out of Milwaukee. They got thoroughly dominated by Jacob Misiorowski in the opener but then dropped back-to-back one run losses over the weekend — hardly a wake-up call for the team, and more like a frustrating result among many that will come with the ebb and flow of a 162-game season.
That won’t stop plenty of people from panicking over the team’s record against teams with winning ones thus far, or from being concerned that the Rays have leapfrogged them in the standings again. It’s certainly unlucky for the Yankees that the one other strong team in the AL at the moment resides in their division and that they were the only other team to sweep them, but do the Yankees really have a problem against good teams based off of this small sample size? Are they a better team than they were last season or just beating up on an easy part of their schedule to start the year?
