This weekend was a bad weekend for Juventus.
Really, really bad.
Not only was the simple fact that they lost to Sassuolo bad, the nature of which they went about “achieving” that kind of result was even worse. Oh, and the fact that the game-winning goal was scored by a player that Juventus loaned to Sassuolo all of a couple of months ago made this kind of second-half implosion all the more perfect.
Perfectly terrible, that is.
Juventus’ defense came into Sunday night’s game looking like a reliable unit.
What played out was mistake after mistake, each one stacked upon the previous error like it was some kind of sick and cruel joke.
Luciano Spalletti’s squad was short-handed, but that doesn’t excuse what we saw from a lot of Juve’s players. And no matter what voodoo there may be for this club whenever it heads to the Mapei Stadium to face Sassuolo, that doesn’t excuse the kind of second-half defensive effort we saw from Juventus on Sunday night.
