Newcastle United continue planning for the summer transfer window with several squad decisions under review following a subpar league campaign and a strong yet still-up-in-the-air European run.
Among the players drawing more and more outside attention each passing day is striker Nick Woltemade, who joined the club last summer from Stuttgart on a long-term contract running through 2031.
That deal isn’t keeping rumors from popping up, but according to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Newcastle will
only consider selling Woltemade if the player formally pushes for a move away.
The club are not actively seeking offers and do not intend to cut ties despite his recent dip in form, which is the most obvious thing in the world from Newcastle’s perspective amid, certainly, an agenda pushed by dubious figures that seem to only have fun messing around with the Tyneside club.
Woltemade made a strong start at Newcastle, scoring six goals in his first 11 appearances after arriving in the Premier League. However, his production has slowed, with just one goal in his last 16 matches across all competitions.
Reports have suggested the 24-year-old could be unsettled, though head coach Eddie Howe has publicly rejected that idea, stating the forward is “really, really happy” at the club.
Football Insider reports that Newcastle would only sanction a departure if Woltemade himself requested a transfer, potentially to return to Germany, but it’s hard to envision that happening unless Bayern Munich reverses course and decides to pony up a monster fee for the forward, something they weren’t willing to do as recently as last summer.
On the outlet’s Transfer Insider podcast, it was stated: “I think it would be a big surprise if Newcastle were to cut their losses on Woltemade so early. He was a big signing for the future. They spent a lot of money on him, Newcastle, as well, and gave him a long term contract until 2031. So look, I think it would be a bit rash if they were to cut their losses on the player so early on into his career at St James’ Park, unless the player himself is seeking to move away from Newcastle.”
For now, no formal transfer request has been reported, and Newcastle’s stance suggests they remain committed to the forward unless circumstances change this summer. Don’t count on it, vultures!
