Through 63 minutes, Bayern Munich’s perfect season was being tested on the road by last place Borussia Mönchengladbach. Joshua Kimmich’s right-footed shot was blocked but fell directly back to his left
foot. Kimmich hit a flat footed shot that was well placed and gave Bayern the game winner. Five minutes later, Raphaël Guerreiro added a second goal to also extend Bayern’s streak of multi-goal games to 13 consecutive matches.
According to @iMiaSanMia, Bayern has officially claimed the best season start in history across Europe’s top five leagues. There is a small asterisk because the first win came in the Franz Beckenbauer Cup. With upcoming wins over FC Köln and Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern can leave no doubt that this is the best start ever.
“This record did not come by chance,” said Joshua Kimmich (via @iMiaSanMia). “It’s the reward for hard work. We have a good team. We have players who come off the bench and make the difference, like Lenny, Serge and Rapha did today. Everyone is happy when the other scores a goal or gets an assist. We’re a very homogeneous group. Of course there’s competition for spots, but everyone is giving it all for the team.”
On top of Kimmich’s game winner, the Germany captain continues to show leadership in uniting the squad as one single unit that blindly supports each other in both success and failure.
Bayern Munich traveled to Borussia Mönchengladbach for a Bundesliga tilt featuring the league first-place and last-place teams.
The game went as expected — especially after Gladbach picked up an early red card, which completely shifted the momentum into Bayern Munich’s favor.
It was a daunting task to ask Gladbach to hold strong for over 70 minutes and eventually Die Fohlen just broke down. Ultimately, Bayern Munich walked away with a 3-0 victory over Gladbach.
