The Scarlet Knights hosted Michigan at Bainton Field in Piscataway over the weekend.
Rutgers opened the series with a victory before losing the final two, falling to 15-12 overall an 4-5 in Big Ten play.
Game One
It was an exciting start to the series as Rutgers earned a come-from-behind victory to kick off the action this weekend.
Rutgers fell behind 3-0 early and rallied to secure a 4-3 win. A combination of four pitchers did not allow a run out of the bullpen with all going at least one inning.
The Wolverines
got to Zack Konstantinovsky early for three runs in the first two innings. He settled in and got through 4 1/3 before handing it off to Jordan Savinon followed by Zach Gleason, who did not allow a hit in 1 1/3 innings of work.
Joe Mazza was credited with the save after pitching the final 1 1/3 innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.
Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, Joey Erace for Rutgers on the board with an infield single. Quinten Perilli got the team closer with an RBI single later in the inning.
Peyton Bonds tied the game with a single in the sixth inning before Tristan Salinas gave Rutgers the lead for good with an RBI knock.
Game Two
In game two, Michigan jumped out to another early lead but did not let this one get away.
The Wolverines scored three runs in the first and built a 7-0 lead in the third inning. Rutgers attempted to get back in during the middle innings but fell short in an 11-5 loss.
Chase Krewson drove in a run in the fifth inning before Charlie Meglio’s three-run home run got Rutgers within 8-4. This was Meglio’s seventh home run of the season.
Michigan tacked on three runs late to put the game away.
Jack Sweeney homered for the first time this season in the ninth inning.
Game Three
Rutgers entered the rubber match looking to win its second Big Ten series of the year.
A Trey Wells single gave the Scarlet Knights the lead in the first inning but Rutgers would score the next six runs to take control. Rutgers ended up losing the final game of the series 6-2.
Down 6-1, Ryan Jaros homered in the seventh inning. He finished 2-for-4 with a run scored. Peyton Bonds added a hit and run scored as well.
Zach Gleason delivered two scoreless innings to end the game with four strikeouts and no walks. Jordan Savinon delivered 1 2/3 innings out of the bullpen, allowing no hits and an unearned run.
