To start the 2026 WNBA season, the Atlanta Dream’s offense has been a work in progress.
On Saturday, the progress was working, as the Dream drowned the visiting Washington Mystics in a season-best offensive outburst.
The 109-77 win marked the Dream’s single-game scoring high, buoyed by 13 made 3s, 32 made free throws and an overall field goal percentage of 48.5 percent. Rhyne Howard led five Dream players who scored in double figures. She hit four 3s on her way to 19 points. Angel Reese scored 18 points,
powered by a perfect 10-for-10 performance from the line. Allisha Gray scored 12 of her 15 points at the line, while Jordin Canada and Madina Okot both scored 11 points.
The Dream’s core identity—their defense—also was essential to their offensive explosion. Atlanta had 16 steals, with Howard, the WNBA’s top steals maven, swiping six. Those takeaways helped fuel 21 fastbreak points. Reese’s signature ownership of the boards also boosted Atlanta’s scoring output. Seven of Angel’s 17 rebounds were offensive, helping the Dream earn 18 second-chance points.
Understandably, good feelings flowed throughout Gateway Center.
Swish Appeal’s contributing photographer Christina Merrion was in attendance for all the festivities, capturing all the joy emanating from Atlanta.
