Víctor Muñoz’s breakout season is beginning to ripple across the European transfer market—and, unsurprisingly, Real Madrid are right at the center of the situation.
Osasuna sporting director Braulio Vázquez made the club’s stance crystal clear after reports of a €25 million verbal offer from Sunderland surfaced. For Osasuna, there is no negotiation to be had. Any club interested in Muñoz will have to meet his full €40 million release clause.
But this is not a straightforward transfer story.
A crucial
detail shifts the balance of power significantly: Real Madrid still control 50% of Muñoz’s rights. That means any potential sale would see half of the fee routed back to the Spanish giants. More importantly, Madrid also hold a buy-back clause that becomes active this summer—giving them the ability to reclaim the player regardless of outside interest.
That leverage looms large as Muñoz’s name begins to circulate more aggressively in the market, with links not only to Premier League sides but also to major Spanish clubs. Despite the growing noise, Osasuna are attempting to keep the focus on the present.
“Real Madrid have a three-year buy-back clause already agreed,” Vázquez explained. “Right now, we’re just enjoying Víctor for the remainder of the season. Football can change very quickly.”
Muñoz’s rise has been nothing short of explosive. In the span of just a few months, he has gone from a relatively unknown prospect to a full Spanish international and one of La Liga’s standout revelations. That rapid development has naturally drawn attention—and intensified scrutiny over Osasuna’s original deal structure with Madrid.
Vázquez acknowledged the shifting narrative around the transfer. What was once questioned is now being second-guessed from the opposite angle.
“There were doubts when we signed such a young player without much top-flight experience,” he said. “Now people are asking why we didn’t secure 100% of his rights. But these deals are complex. We accepted Real Madrid’s conditions, and both the club and the player made the right decision.”
From Real Madrid’s perspective, it’s a position of strength. With a buy-back clause in hand and half the economic rights secured, they are uniquely placed to decide Muñoz’s next step—whether that means bringing him back to the Bernabéu or benefiting financially from his inevitable move elsewhere.
