Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has returned to the Poland national team as he was named in the squad for September’s World Cup Qualifiers away to the Netherlands and at home to Finland.
Lewandowski made a shocking decision to quit the national team
after falling out with manager Michal Probierz after the coach stripped the striker of the captaincy, which generated such controversy in the country that Probierz ended up resigning.Jan Urban has since taken charge, and the new boss made the decision
to recall the country’s all-time top scorer and give him back the armband, and made a short statement about Lewandowski’s return and reinstatement as captain.
“Robert Lewandowski will be the team captain. The players have already been informed. I spoke to them about it. I wanted them to be the first to know my decision. It’s final, and I consider the matter of the captain’s armband closed. There will be no further comment on the matter.”

Lewandowski missed the first game of Barça’s La Liga season due to a minor hamstring injury, but is fully healthy now and will likely benefit from playing for his country to get some more rhythm.
