The Pittsburgh Steelers have been connected to several wide receiver possibilities as the NFL trade deadline approaches, but one prominent name appears to be off the table.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter poured cold water on speculation surrounding a potential trade for New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson, making it clear that he does not expect the former first-round pick to land in Pittsburgh.
The speculation gained traction after NFL insider Jason La Canfora suggested Pittsburgh could be
ambitious ahead of the Nov. 10 trade deadline and potentially pursue another playmaker. Wilson was among the names mentioned as a possible fit alongside DK Metcalf, giving the Steelers another weapon in their passing game.
However, Schefter made it clear that the connection between Wilson and Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers should not be viewed as a reason to expect a reunion.
“I was told last week; no way they trade him.” Schefter said on his podcast Tuesday.
Wilson and Rodgers spent two seasons together with the Jets in 2023 and 2024, but reports have indicated that their relationship was not particularly strong toward the end of their time together. Schefter suggested that people speculating about the reunion might not understand the full dynamic between the two.
“I don’t think people know that full relationship there. I don’t know that that would work. That’s not happening. Garrett Wilson’s not being traded to Pittsburgh.”
There are also significant reasons New York would be reluctant to move on from Wilson. The 26-year-old signed a four-year, $130 million contract extension in 2025 and remains a central piece of the Jets’ long-term plans. He also has not requested a trade, despite the team’s struggles this season.
Pittsburgh, meanwhile, enters its bye week with a 6-2 record and sits in a strong position in the AFC North. With the trade deadline approaching, the Steelers could still explore ways to strengthen their receiving corps as they look to make a legitimate postseason run. For now, though, Steelers fans may need to look elsewhere for a potential trade target.
