Former UFC lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira, is back in the promotion’s pound-for-pound rankings, clocking in at No. 15 after his submission victory over Mateusz Gamrot atop the UFC Rio fight card
last weekend in Brazil. In order to make room for the “Predator,” inactive welterweight contender Shavkat Rakhmonov, still recovering from a serious knee injury, has departed the list.
Oliveira (36-11, 1 NC) also jumped one spot to No. 3 in the 155-pound rankings.
In the UFC Rio co-main event, former flyweight champion, Deiveson Figueiredo, held onto his No. 6 ranking in the bantamweight class by capturing a split decision victory over Montel Jackson. The defeat cost “Quik” precious real estate in the 135-pound rankings, with veteran “Maniac” Marcus McGhee replacing Jackson at No. 15 in Tuesday’s official rankings update.
That’s not all.
Here’s how the rankings are compiled, at least until AI takes over:
Rankings are generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound. A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are in active status in the UFC. A fighter can appear in more than one weight division at a time. The champion and interim champion are considered to be in the top positions of their respective divisions and therefore are not eligible for voting by weight-class. However, the champions can be voted on for the pound-for-pound rankings.
