What a strange feeling.
This is normally the slot in which I would be talking about what Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs need to do to claw their way back into the game. However in a zippy twist on their normal pattern
the Red and Black shook of their customary first half stupor and cruised to a commanding 24-7 halftime lead over the Mississippi State Bizarro Bulldogs.
The stat sheet pretty much tells the story. The Athenians have churned out 285 yards of offense already and have scored on every offensive possession except the one that ended inside the Mississippi State 5 yard line on a questionable fumble call. Mike Bobo’s unit is averaging 7.5 yards per play including a solid 5.74 per rushing attempt. In short, unless the Bizarro Bulldog defense figures out how to slow down this attack in the second half, this one could get out of hand.
On the other side of the ball the Dawgs’ defense got uncharacteristically stout early, stopping the home team on five straight possessions after giving up a touchdown on the first drive. When Blake Shapen’s had time he’s made some plays. But he’s had time a lot less often than one might have expected from a UGA defense that’s struggled to get home in the pass rush this season.
The Red and Black get the ball coming out of the locker room with the chance to lean on the ground game, take the air out of the ball
