We rumble along into a fresh offseason week, patiently waiting for the Yankees to make a big move. Amed Rosario was their most recent marginal move, a smart re-signing to give Aaron Boone a much-needed
right-handed option that can play across the field. Yesterday, New York was reported to be in on Michael King, which would qualify as something much more than a marginal manuever. Their direct rivals, the Red Sox and Orioles, are reported to be the other primary suitors for King’s services, though any number of teams could still be in the hunt.
On the site today, we’re excited to unveil a new offseason history series, where we’ll look back at 50 of the biggest free agent signings in Yankees history. Matt will start us off with the signing of Catfish Hunter which, while not technically occurring during MLB’s free agent era, was a landmark moment in baseball history.
Questions/Prompts:
1. Rumor has it the Yankees are in on Michael King, and that they may still be in on Japanese star Tatsuya Imai. Who would you rather have for 2026?
2. If you had to predict now, which Yankees prospect will have the biggest impact on the team next year?
