I know some Chicago Bears fans are down after that loss to the Green Bay Packers, but was Week 1 really that long ago? Are we letting the game in the pouring rain and three straight starts by backup quarterbacks cloud our outlook for the Bears? After an offseason of real hope, hype, and anticipation, Caleb Williams and the Chicago offense dropped 59 points in a road game to kick off the year. Sure, the defense was exposed a bit, but the Bears were the talk of the NFL.
After that Week 1 performance,
the offseason buzz around Williams as a dark-horse Most Valuable Player candidate ramped up even more, as a bunch of money poured in on him to win MVP, thus lowering the odds.
Then a tough battle against an aggressive Minnesota Vikings defense came in a downpour, and Williams was carted off. Most thought the season was doomed, but the injury wasn’t season-ending, and the Bears regrouped to go 2-1 in Caleb’s absence.
Week 6 for the Bears is a road game against the Atlanta Falcons, and our partners at FanDuel Sportsbook currently have the Bears at -1.5, with the over/under at 51.5.
A road favorite with some uncertainty at quarterback is exactly what the Bears were one week ago, and we all remember how that one turned out.
But this time, the talk is positive about Caleb starting for the first time since Week 2. He practiced on Thursday, said he could do everything, had another practice today, and was full again, presumably with no setbacks.
Assuming he plays*, I like the Bears to win and cover the 1.5 points. I also like the over on the total because Atlanta’s offense will get theirs.
I also like the over on Williams’ passing yards, set at 225.5 by FanDuel.
There’s still plenty of season left, so if you think Caleb can get his MVP case back on track, those odds are at +10,000. Not gonna lie, a few bucks on that at those odds could be a fun one to monitor.
*If the Williams doesn’t play, I still like the Bears to win and cover, but I’d stay away from the total.
