The Dallas Mavericks have fired General Manager Nico Harrison. The news broke this morning via reports from Shams Charania. Harrison became Dallas’ GM in 2021 and presided over two trips to the Western
Conference Finals along with one to the 2024 NBA Finals.
In February, 2025 Harrison engineered the trade of franchise superstar Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for center Anthony Davis as part of a three-team deal. The Mavericks failed to make the 2025 NBA Playoffs and have started 3-8 this season in Doncic’s absence.
Dallas released an official statement as well as a letter from owner Patrick Dumont to Mavericks fans in the wake of the firing. The statement reads, in part:
In conjunction with this decision, the Mavericks have appointed Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi as co-interim general managers to oversee basketball operations. A comprehensive search will begin for a permanent replacement.
“This decision reflects our continued commitment to building a championship-caliber organization, one that delivers for our players, our partners, and most importantly, our fans,” said Dumont.
