Former referee Mateu Lahoz has been asked what he thinks about Ferran Torres’ controversial goal for Barcelona in Saturday’s win over Real Mallorca.
Ferran made it 2-0 with a fine effort that came after Antonio Raillo had gone to ground and was seen holding his head.
Real Mallorca boss Jagoba Arrasate was unhappy
that the game did not stop so Raillo could receive attention, and Lahoz also thinks that is what should have happened.“Ferran Torres’ goal? I am certain that in those eight seconds, the result
for the referee was: ‘I wish I could disappear from the face of the earth’ because it’s a situation no one wants,” he said.
“He will definitely learn from it, because FIFA, UEFA, and the Technical Committee of Referees agree that the players’ safety comes first. He should have stopped the game after just two seconds, when the player fell, signaled to halt the match, and then none of what followed would have happened.”
Hansi Flick also spoke about the incident after the game, saying he understood Mallorca’s frustrations but that Ferran was right to play to the whistle.
