The No. 7 Texas Longhorns got one in the win column, but still had plenty to work on after self-inflicted wounds kept them from truly putting their foot on the gas against San Jose State.
The Longhorns get another shot to iron out their issues ahead of conference play with the UTEP Miners coming to town on Saturday. The Miners are 1-1 on the year, with a season-opening loss to the Utah State Aggies before a bounce-back win against UT-Martin. Quarterback Malachi Nelson, who is finally seeing the field
after two transfers, tossed four touchdown passes, averaging 10.7 yards per attempt in their home opening win.
Texas needs to clean up its unforced errors in the game, after erasing 110 yards of offense and giving San Jose State two free first downs on defense and special teams. The offense also needs to find its rhythm and determine just who will be their top offensive weapons alongside Parker Livingstone, who had a breakout game against the Spartans.
