Contract to popular belief, Bayern Munich is not the modern day embodiment of the biblical figure Job.
It might seem like it, but the Bavarians are not dealing with numerous plagues.
Sure, Alphonso Davies, Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala, Manuel Neuer, Jonas Urbig Sven Ulreich, Hiroki Itō, Wisdom Mike, and Leon Klanac (Who? Yes, even guys you might not have heard of — like the 4th goalkeeper) are banged up.
Add all of that to Bundesliga suspensions for Nicolas Jackson and Luis Díaz and you might have the
makings of squad just waiting for the bottom to fall out from underneath it.
To paraphrase 10,000 Maniacs — these are certainly days.
However, this Bayern Munich squad has not been defined by lamenting its current state when things go wrong (despite all of the complaints about refereeing from last weekend). Nor has this been a team prone to sulk or feel sorry for itself.
The fact is, this team has been remarkably resilient and rallied around each other at any sign of trouble. There has been no infighting, no locker room lawyering, and no cases of the media being weaponized to spark controversy — this is just a team that seems to love ball and thoroughly enjoy playing the together.
Now, with a variety of different reasons to collapse under adversity, this group of Bavarians seems — and looks — ready to issue a response to what should be a motivated (wishful?) Atalanta squad.
Will Bayern Munich — once again — show that championship mentality?
This season, there really should not be any doubt.
Song of the Midweek: “Can’t Stand Me Now” by The Libertines
This is a bit of a deep cut from 2004 and one of the forgotten songs from the garage rock era. This was the biggest hit from The Libertines, an English group founded in London. Their first two albums were produced by Mick Jones from The Clash and this tune might have tinge of the sound you might hear from The Clash in it. Enjoy this trip back to the early aughts:
Entertainment Rundown
Still working on season two of Landman…and am enjoying it, but time is needed to finish it!
In the meantime, here is an early clip from Invincible season four:
The show has lost a little steam, of course, but could be rounding into some major conflict (not like the somewhat lame scene from above).
Predictions
Bayern Munich has an absolute ton of reasons to feel sorry for itself or to even just pack it in as it holds a five-goal lead on aggregate over Atalanta — but it won’t happen.
The Bavarians are at home and might have had a fire lit under their respective asses after the weekend. Expect them to rally, make a statement, and show the world — again — who they are really are.
Prediction: Bayern Munich 3-1 Atalanta

- Liverpool 2-0 Galatasaray (Liverpool advances)
