Before even a snap could be played on Thursday night against the Cowboys, Eagles DT Jalen Carter was ejected for spitting on Dak Prescott. It was later reported that Carter did so in retaliation after Prescott spit near the Eagles defensive huddle while FB Ben VanSumeren was being looked at by the medical team.
After seeing the video, Prescott didn’t just spit near the huddle, he was clearly locked in on Carter and intended to make a statement. Unfortunately, Carter took the bait and ended up ejected
because of it.
Referee Shawn Smith explained why the action resulted in an ejection, saying, “It’s a disqualifiable foul in the game. It’s a non-football act.”
Carter needs to learn from this, and quickly, because he’s also likely to face additional penalties from the league. The Eagles defense needs him out on the field, and it’s his job not to be goaded into making decisions that keep him sidelined and away from the team.
