The Indianapolis Colts’ fire sale has begun. Unfortunately, they are giving the Seattle Seahawks one of the NFL’s best guards. Eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson is headed to the Seahawks.
Nelson, who is on an expiring contract, was traded for a 2027 3rd-round pick and a 2028 5th-round pick. That’s a cheap deal, regardless of whether you feel like you can re-sign Nelson. He’s 30, so you’d think Nelson has at least four more years of high-level play. That’s the same deal the San Francisco 49ers
made for Trent William.
The Seahawks are set to have a handful of compensatory picks in the next draft after losing Boye Mafe, Kenneth Walker, Tariq Woolen, and Coby Bryant. Seattle also gets a third-rounder after executive Nolan Teasley became the Vikings general manager. So, in their minds, this is a no-brainer.
It was the kind of move we had briefly discussed the 49ers making. Nelson would have been a massive upgrade from Connor Colby at left guard.
You’re never looking to counter a trade for a trade, but it would make even more sense for the Niners to trade for DeForest Buckner, a player they were linked to on Monday.
Would you have made this trade if you were John Lynch? Will the 49ers answer with a trade of their own? Let us know in the comments below.
