Last summer defender Mamadou Sarr joined Chelsea from sister club Strasbourg after an impressive season with the French outfit. Even on the back of a half-season loan with his former club where he kept up solid outings, Sarr failed to reproduce the same kind of form at Stamford Bridge and had very few chances to impress under Liam Rosenior and Calum McFarlane.
Seems like his playing time outlook wasn’t favourable with Xabi Alonso at helm either. Hence his season-long loan to Real Sociedad, which was officially
confirmed today.
Even with only seven Chelsea appearances to his name Sarr was called up to the 2026 World Cup to be part of Senegal’s national team. However he was only a bench option for former manager Pape Thiaw.
The 20-year-old now joins the Spanish team against whom we played our last preseason match of the summer. He will be playing under American head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo, who will be hoping Sarr can contribute to take the Txuri-Urdin beyond their 10th place finish in La Liga and also successfully defend their Copa del Rey title.
