It’s safe to say that this has not been a good week when it comes to Juventus players and injuries.
Ironically, it has involved players who aren’t out on international duty. Instead, those who have been
in Turin training with the rest of their fellow teammates who didn’t have national team duty during the October break.
Earlier this week it was Gleison Bremer having to undergo meniscus surgery. Now, Juventus third-choice keeper Carlo Pinsoglio is looking at a lengthy spell out of action — likely to be at least two months — after what the club has called “a medium-to-high grade injury to the medial gastrocnemius muscle in his left leg,” it was announced on Wednesday. While the absence of Pinsoglio is not nearly the same category as Bremer when it comes to on-field impact — remember, he’s usually only appearing in the season finale if everything goes right — it’s still another hit in a string of injuries that have hit the Juventus squad in recent weeks.
Pinsoglio will undergo tests at J Medical in a couple of weeks to further determine just how long he will be out of action after picking up this injury to his calf, Juve said as part of their announcement.
Here is the full (albeit still brief) update on Pinsoglio’s injury, courtesy of Juventus’ official website:
Following an issue that arose during yesterday’s training session, Carlo Pinsoglio underwent radiological tests at J|medical this afternoon.
The tests revealed a medium-to-high grade injury to the medial gastrocnemius muscle in his left leg. He will undergo further tests in two weeks’ time to determine the exact recovery time.
The 35-year-old Pinsoglio has been Juventus’ No. 3 goalkeeper for much of the past decade.
With Pinsoglio out, the only two senior level goalkeepers available for Juventus manager Igor Tudor will be Michele Di Gregorio and Mattia Perin. If they were to call up somebody from the Next Gen squad to have a third keeper available on match days, it will likely be 21-year-old Stefano Mangiapoco — who has played in eight of their nine games so far this season — or backup Simone Scaglia, who is also 21 years old.
