After bouncing back from a brief lull in late January with a cushy 2-0 win over Cagliari last week, Roma thrust itself back into the top four chase, joining the likes of AC Milan, Inter Milan, Napoli, and Juventus in the race for one of Italy’s four Champions League places next season. And what’s more, Roma was given an additional lifeline yesterday when Juventus fell to Inter at the death. Thanks to Piotr Zielinski’s 90th-minute math winner, Roma has a chance to make fourth place their own with a win over their southern
rivals, Napoli.
If you’re a long-time Roma fan/sufferer, then you’re likely viewing today’s match with a healthy dose of skepticism; after all, the Giallorossi have squandered many opportunities like this in the past. With three months remaining in the season, any advantage Roma can build now will make the final weeks of the season less fraught.
So let’s hope Gasperini’s group can finally take advantage!
