Sunday sucked.
It doesn’t take a genius to figure that out.
And while they might have dodged serious injury concerns with Caleb Williams, the offense shot itself in the foot with turnovers, penalties and overall sloppy play. It was a terribly disappointing effort that netted just three points, only seven days after they dropped 59.
The weather definitely played a part and didn’t help the home team. But that’s football.
The Chicago Bears are going to have to regroup and rally around their backup QB for
at least one week, maybe more and try to get back on track.
But with that said, let’s look at who played well and who didn’t against the Minnesota Vikings.
Stock up
Malik Muhammad, CB – Muhammad is in a tough spot. He had to quickly get pressed into action and is being counted on more than he, or coaches, would have thought. But he’s responded with really solid play. Against the Vikings, Muhammad notched a sack, a TFL and a QB hit.
T.J. Edwards, LB – Edwards missed time last year and was working his way back from offseason surgery in August. I think expectations for the vet were somewhat muted. Maybe he isn’t the same as he once was, but he made his four tackles count on Sunday. Twice he saved big plays by making great open-field tackles. One ended a Vikings drive and another saved a possible touchdown, or at least an explosive play.
Dayo Odeyingbo, DE – Motivated Dayo showed up Sunday. He had a sack, 2 QB hits and a TFL. If this is the Dayo we get each week, or even every other week, I think most fans would change their tune about the much-maligned free agent signing.
Stock down
Garrett Bradbury, C – Bradbury had an awful game. He drew four penalties, three of which were accepted, while the other was offset by a penalty. His blocking at times was rough, too. Drew Dahlman, where art thou?
Sam Roush, TE – Roush really had a rough outing. Rookies are going to have growing pains and the game is probably still moving really fast for him before he can play without thinking. But the drops, the missed block on the field goal Minnesota blocked- it was a game tape the rook is going to want to bury.
Braxton Jones, LT – Jones and Theo Benedect continued to rotate at LT. Neither really inspired much confidence. The Vikings’ rush was relentless, but each game is making fans look forward to finally seeing Ozzy Tapillo being active on game day.
