On Tuesday, Kentucky officially started the 2026-27 basketball season with an 85-57 victory over Manhattan, beginning year three of the Mark Pope era.
Then, Big Blue Nation woke up to start their day on Wednesday, as the Wildcats secured a commitment from 7-foot-5 center Cherif Millogo, a big man who continues to climb the rankings and has made his way up to No. 11 in Rivals’ class of 2027 recruiting rankings.
Well, Pope isn’t stopping there. Following the commitment, it was reported later Wednesday
morning that the No. 5 player in the class of 2027, AJ Williams, would travel to Kentucky this weekend for an official visit. Kentucky will have some ground to make up, but getting him on campus is a step in the right direction.
Williams is the No. 3 small forward in the ‘27 class and has been recruited heavily by a ton of schools, with BYU (shocker), Auburn, and Georgia generating the most buzz. His final 10 schools in consideration are Georgia, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Arkansas, BYU, Auburn, Duke, Illinois, and Kentucky.
Williams is a 6-foot-7, 200-pound small forward by way of Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy in McDonough, Georgia. He brings a ton of shot-making ability, athleticism, the ability to get to his spots, and finishing around the rim, so the fit is clear for Pope at Kentucky.
We’ll see if Kentucky can keep the momentum rolling in the recruiting world.
