News:
OF Dominic Canzone remains out of the lineup tonight against the lefty, but is continuing to experience soreness from being struck on the wrist (the pisiform bone, to be exact) by a 88.2 mph sinker a week ago in the series opener at Philly. He’s had a cortisone shot which is helping calm the inflammation and is available to pinch hit if necessary. He does say he’s feeling better and looks forward to returning to the lineup as soon as the Mariners face a righty starter again.
Captain’s Log:
Dan Wilson on all the lefty starters the Mariners have faced lately:
“It has been a stretch of lefties. We are getting a little bit more comfortable and I think what we saw yesterday in terms of their approach and how they handled [Lopez], I thought it was awesome. They’re each going to present their own little difficulties or challenges, but it good to have gotten a little more comfortable. We just hadn’t seen a lot of them for a long stretch, and now we’ve seen a lot of them.”
Today in Mariners History:

- 1995: In a double steal with Ken Griffey Jr., Edgar Martinez steals home in a 6-3 Mariners win at the Royals. It is his only stolen base of the season.
- 2001: The Arthur Rhodes Earring Game
- 2010: Félix Hernández becomes the third youngest pitcher to reach 1,000 strikeouts. Number 1,000 came on a strikeout of future Hall of Famer David Ortiz in a game against the Boston Red Sox. The Mariners won, 4-2.
- 2017: The Mariners use seven pitchers to edge the Yankees 2-1 in extras. Yonder Alonso homers off closer Aroldis Chapman, and Edwin Díaz locks down his 30th save of the season.
