The news a short time ago about John Cena’s final appearances in New York’s Madison Square Garden and Boston’s TD Garden also indicated an apparent change in WWE’s plans for the last matches of Cena’s legendary career.
We had been told the 17-time WWE champion would wrestle for the final time in Boston, just south of West Newbury — the Massachusetts town Cena’s been introduced from for the past two decades. But if Cena’s last appearance in Beantown is on November 10, then the Dec. 13 Saturday Night’s
Main Event won’t be in the home of the Celtics. And we already know from the press release that made SNME Peacock-exclusive (as compensation for WWE premium live events moving to ESPN earlier) that Cena’s last match is on that Dec. 13 show.
WrestleVotes says they have the answer, posting this “exclusive” on social media:
John Cena’s final match is set for Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13th, live from the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC.
Now speculation can begin about what the change means. Does WWE want Cena to go over in his hometown arena, then put someone else over in his last match in the nation’s capital? Did DC pay for the right to host Cena’s last match (reports had said TKO was looking for more than a million for a weekend-long “takeover” that would include SNME?
Speculate away in the comments below, Cagesiders.
