Triple-A: Worcester Red Sox 3, Norfolk Tides 1
Ryan Noda hit a solo homer in the fifth inning to give the Tides their only run of the game. Noda added a double to notch Norfolk’s only multi-hit game. He also accounted for both of the Tides extra-base hits.
Enrique Bradfield Jr. finished 0-for 3 with a walk. Heston Kjerstad singled in four trips, and Creed Willems finished 0-for-3 with a base on balls and a pair of strikeouts.
Nestor German tossed five innings of three-run ball. German allowed four hits, walked three, and struck out five. Only two
of the three runs were earned. Yaqui Rivera, Cam Sanders and Andrew Mango combined for four innings of scoreless relief.
Double-A: Altoona Curve (Pirates) 14, Chesapeake Baysox 10
Chesapeake trimmed the deficit to one with a five-run top of the eighth, but Altoona secured three insurance runs in the bottom half. Brandon Butterworth had a monster day at the plate finishing 3-for-5 with a homer, two doubles and five RBIs. Leadoff hitter Aron Estrada went 2-for-5 and scored three times. Griff O’Ferrall finished 2-for-4 with a double, and Victor Figueroa tripled and scored twice. Wehiwa Aloy failed to reach in a pinch-hit opportunity.
Starter Sebastian Gongora failed to complete two innings. Former Penn State football commit Lonnie White Jr. took Gongora deep in the top of the first, but the Curve struck for eight runs in the second inning. Gongora did himself a favor by committing a throwing error early in the second to prevent several of the runs from being scored as earned. Chesapeake committed five errors during the contest.
High-A: Wilmington Blue Rocks (Nationals) 4, Frederick Keys 3
Fernando Peguero gave Frederick a one-run lead with a two-run shot in the third, but the Keys failed to score again. Frederick starter Christian Rodriguez allowed four runs (three earned) over five innings. He allowed seven hits and was done in by a pair of long balls.
Teddy Sharkey and Ben Vespi combined for four scoreless innings. Both relievers struck out three.
Peguero recorded two of Frederick’s five hits. Braylin Tavera managed a double in three trips.
Low-A: Hickory Crawdads (Rangers) 11, Delmarva Shorebirds 2
Jaiden Lo Re plated Delmarva’s only two runs with a base hit in the sixth inning. Lo Re technically only received credit for one RBI after the center fielder committed an error, but there was not much else to brag about last night.
Starter KK Clark allowed three earned in two innings. Brandon Downer pitched 3.1 innings of bulk relief and surrendered six runs (three earned) on nine hits, a walk, and a pair of strikeouts.
