Bayern Munich goalkeeper Jonas Urbig might only be the second best goalkeeper on his own club team, but he could very well be one of the three top netminders in all of Germany.
After Urbig’s scintillating five-save performance during Bayern Munich’s 1-0 win over Wolfsburg, the youngster said that he appreciated the support that noted pundit Lothar Matthäus gave him by saying that Urbig should be in Julian Nagelsmann’s World Cup squad.
“First of all, I’m happy that Lothar has a positive opinion on me.
I’m training hard every day and taking it day by day and week by week. Now we still have a home game in the league and the DFB-Pokal final, unfortunately not the Champions League final. After that, I’ll think [about the national team],” said Urbig (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Urbig has had a very strong season and despite the lack of games played, he might be the most talented goalkeeper available for Germany this summer (barring Manuel Neuer making a surprise return). Will Nagelsmann reward Urbig or will the former FC Köln have to wait for the next cycle?
